For Starters…

Howdy!

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. — Thorin from The Hobbit: Or, There and Back Again

I am a PhD student in TAMU-Chemical Engineering, been here about 3 years. Being a HUGE foodie and a vegetarian, I have created this blog for sharing my relevant experiences and opinions. The hope is that this can help vegetarians in Bryan/College Station area. Will be updating different pages on the blog as I go along figuring it out.

Keep visiting the blog if you are a vegetarian and interested in finding new places to eat around town. If you are among the majority who think that there are not too many good options available for vegetarians in this town, give me a chance to change your mind!

Vegetarians…

Dairy Queen

DQ is also known is the “Texas Stop Sign” – on the account of Texans stopping for a drive-by whenever they spot a DQ on the highway. (Also their logo is red like a stop sign.)

“Blizzard”s mean different things up north. But in Texas, a blizzard means a sweet cold treat from DQ!

During every visit, fill out their survey (details on the receipt) immediately after your purchase, to get a free Dilly Bar.

Hungry Howie’s Pizza

Best pizza-chain in town. Recommendation: try their Jalapeno & Cheese-stuffed Howie Bread. I don’t like their marinara that they provide with the bread, so I dip the bread in my own ketchup and ranch. Result: fabulous!

They usually have some pretty good deals. A large pizza is more than enough for 2 people. A Howie bread + a large pizza is just enough for 3 people.

Fazoli’s (Italian Fast Food)

When you are craving from something cheesy and Italian, but cheap, this is the place to be! There are a couple of vegetarian options, and unlimited breadsticks when dining in is hard to beat! Also, these are some of the best breadsticks in town!

Alfredo Pasta

Great cheesy fast food option. I like the sweet taste of the alfredo sauce, which is added to this pasta heartily. I also order the marinara sauce on the side, and mix it with the pasta – the result is very good!

Baked Spaghetti

A decent dish, made in the marinara sauce.

Unlimited Free Breadsticks

Some of the best breadsticks in town. Free, unlimited when dining in. Goes well with a size of marinara sauce.

Burger Mojo

They charge extra for veggie patty for some reason, still it is quite affordable. The burger isn’t bad! The fries are made elsewhere and just warmed up here- they tasted terrible because they were not fresh.

Chili’s Grill & Bar

Download their app before going: free chips & salsa OR a non-alcoholic drink. The chips & salsa are okay. I used to get a coke but I discovered the Blackberry Iced Tea and got hooked – highly recommended!

Black bean burger

A decent burger option in town. Fries are good!

Veggie Fajita

Excellent shareable platter 🙂

Veggie Pasta

One of my favorite pasta options. The garlic bread is very good!

Paolo’s Italian Kitchen

High-end restaurant, great for dates!

Veggie Lasagna

Not many places in town have veggie lasagna available, but Paolo’s is one place where I got this dish. I like it and go often with friends/partner.

Free bread and garlic butter

These are to die for!

Eggplant Parmsan

This dish is decent here, but I much rather prefer the one at Fritella’s Italian Cafe.

Spinach Ravioli

Did not like it much.

Chocolate Cheesecake

Pretty good!

Tiramisu

Tried and tasted – very good!

World of Beer

Due to the name, I used to think this is just a pub/bar and did not try it for two years. And boy was I wrong! This has become one of my most-often-visited places. Thursdays are happy hours all day and they accept pocket points, so you can get unbelievable deals!

Tater Tots

You can get the loaded tater tots without the bacon/meat. I have cravings for this plate. I mean, jjust look at the picture! My mouth is getting watery right now!

Black Bean Burger

You an get a burger and replace the patty with the black bean patty. This burger is possibly the best veggie burger in town – I would have been 100% sure about this if the veggie burger at Fusion Peru did not come with the Peruvian sauces!

Margherita Flatbread

Not half bad! Especially since Chili’s took the flatbread off their menu for god-knows-what-reason, this flatbread has become a favorite.

Fritella Italian Cafe

Best Eggplant Parmesan in town. Certainly the best I have ever tried! The marinara sauce is delicious.

Eggplant Parm is Friday special at Fritella – it comes for a cheaper price on Fridays, with a salad and drink combo. Friday lunch is the best deal.

Their Focaccia Bread + Marinara Sauce side combo isn’t half bad either!

Blaze Pizza

Pretty much all options break down to Build your own pizza. One can get more than enough for a meal in ~$8. The garlic knots are good too!

Recommendation: add whatever veggies you want, ask to add sea salt and pepper, and finally top it with balsamic vinegar. If you like a little bit of sweetness, you can ask for a drizzle of BBQ sauce. I like ranch on the side.

Download the app for great deals! (Although lately the app hasn’t been working for my pickup orders.)
